CDOT is rebuilding eight miles of the I-70 Mountain Corridor from west of Evergreen to eastern Idaho Springs: mile points 241 to 248, between Exit 241 (Idaho Springs) and Exit 248 (County Road 65), in Clear Creek County. Construction began in July 2023.
CDOT says westbound I-70 will be in its new alignment by the end of 2027, eastbound by the end of 2028, and the whole project complete in 2029.
CDOT says major rock blasting is complete (211 blasts as of July 2026) and no longer needs daily traffic holds. Some blasting may still be needed as work goes on. If so, expect daytime 20-minute holds on I-70, with delays of up to 45 minutes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.
CDOT lists the cost as $905 million (2025); the 2020 estimate was $700 million. The contractor is Kraemer North America.

From CDOT's project page, checked Oct 29, 2026. Dates can change; the project page has the latest.
It starts at 0 and adds points for what COtrip lists on I-70 between Idaho Springs and Evergreen Parkway right now: incidents (minor 1, moderate 2, major 3, plus 1 for a crash and 3 if it closes the road), lane closures in effect (2 for the first, 1 for each more), work zones with lanes closed (1 or 2), and road conditions (closed 6, chain law 2, snow or ice 2, fog 1). The top is 10. It reads CDOT reports, not measured speed, so a quiet score can still be a slow drive. This is the first version of the rules.
